Chinese leaders commemorate Deng Xiaoping's birth anniversary

Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed a symposium on Wednesday morning to mark the upcoming 110th anniversary of the birth of late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, which falls on Friday.

Senior leaders Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli attended the symposium.

6,000 cadres, 26 bln yuan in aid of Tibet over 20 years

In the past 20 years, China has sent close to 6,000 cadres and technical professionals, and earmarked 26 billion yuan (about 4.2 billion U.S. dollars) to help with development of the southwestern autonomous region of Tibet, local officials said at a press conference Sunday.

According to Wang Fengchao, deputy head of the Organization Department of the Tibet regional committee of the Communist Party of China, since 1994 when the cadres aid program was launched, seven batches of talents from 18 provincial regions were sent to 74 counties and cities of the southwest region, working in different areas including economy, technology, education, medical science, etc.

Spokesman calls for respect for HK's political system

A Chinese mainland spokesman on Tuesday called on parties in Taiwan to respect Hong Kong's development of political system and the achievements of the "one country, two systems" policy.

Ma Xiaoguang of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office made the remarks when he was asked to comment on reactions in Taiwan to the Aug. 31 decision of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on Hong Kong's electoral system.
